I became self employed in 2003 after my daughter was
born and became single in 2005.
Ethics Trading was set up after I found it
increasingly frustrating finding natural alternatives for me and my
family. My son had a type of localised infant eczema that was
aggravated by commercial washing powders, bio ones in particular.
His asthma was also aggravated by air freshener and synthetic
perfumes. So my hunt began for an alternative.
Essential oils in a burner
replaced our air fresheners and we switched to non bio powders but I
found we were restricted to certain brands - those with no perfume
are hard to find. Then someone handed me a small cloth bag with some
leathery
berries in and said they were for laundry. Call me a sceptic but I wasn't sure.
That was my first sight of
soap nuts.
I've never looked back. In fact I now
clean pretty much everything with them. The kitchen floor gleams and
the room smells of
tea tree
or lavender. My son's skin is clear and rosy. I've even grown a
small tree but I'm not sure it'll survive the winter here so it'll
be coming inside while it's cold. |
