It&#039;s like the days of VHS vs Betamax, and I suspect that eventually one format will dominate and be the norm across all ereaders. Some will fall by the wayside and some people will have the &quot;wrong&quot; one gathering dust in a cupboard somewhere. 
It stinks, but it&#039;s what we have to work with as a business, and as writers.</description>

I understand that, from a business POV, it makes sense to take them up on the offer. It&#039;s one of those &quot;We&#039;re so big, we can give away anything for free juuuuuuuust long enough to put those other guys out of business.&quot; (Insert maniacal laugh here.)

I really wish the open/transparent ideal could be the prominent business practice. I have a Barnes &amp; Noble Nook and I love it, but it&#039;s frustrating that some of the books I bought last year can&#039;t be read because they&#039;re Kindle format, not Nook.

It&#039;s really deplorable that the technology isn&#039;t made to be compatible. I can purchase a DVD of any movie and watch it on any DVD player in the country, but if I buy an e-book, I have to choose between the 2 big dominating providers.</description>
