In other news Ethics Trading is looking at 2 possible new stock ranges. One is really natural skin care and the other is a set of health benefiting products which could include something to help out in your home too.

While we do manage to reuse packaging most of the time there is only so much that we receive here that can be reused. And your order has to be secure, safe and manageable by the post office, and it has to reach you safely and without getting soaked or damaged. Soap nuts in particular shouldn’t get wet, until you want them to.

It’s a bit of a balancing act.

Imagine my surprise when I went to order more mailing bags and found some that are made from 95% recycled materials and are 100% biodegradeable – for THE SAME PRICE as I usually pay….

So we’ll be trying those out as soon as they arrive and would welcome your feedback if your order arrives in one.  Do please let us know what you think. The idea is sound but will they meet our needs in regards to secure and safe packaging?

However, with parcel charges going up and costs overall rising, I’ve had to raise the upper limit to orders of £40 or more now getting the free post. I think it’s better to have a constant offer rather than a short lived “This weekend only” thing from time to time. I prefer consostency, I like to go back to my favourite sites and know what the options are.

The free post offer isn’t restricted to non-sale items, ALL products listed on the site are included.

I hope you all understand and that you still take advantage of the offer.

But bear in mind that comments that bear no relation to the post, make no sense or carry links to porn sites, strange places that make no sense and the like, will be thrown in the Spam Bin.

So, although the various free, straight out of the box, often free shopping cart systems are great, they drive me nuts as a customer. I’m asking myself why, in that case, did I ever think it was such a good idea to use them for my business?

The more observant of you may have noticed that Ethics Trading has reverted to the previous shopping software. Some of you may not have noticed, and that’s fine too. The old shiny little shop is still there for now, in case anyone still has the links to it, but I will be deleting it in the near future – I just haven’t decided when yet! Hopefully you’ll find the new system easier and faster to use and I’m hoping to take you a parcel to the post office very soon.

Squidoo is fun, free and you can do as much or as little as you want and it might just help traffic to your website, or raise awareness for your cause or event.

Also did a radical prune on my massive, beautiful buddleia which was around 7 feet tall and is now about 12 inches of stump but apparently it’ll grow back more vigorously next year and the pruning will protect it from damage if we get storms or heavy snow. Snow killed my rosemary bush last year through sheer weight, the main stem split straight down the middle and it never recovered. So the biggest of the replacement plants has also been pruned hard to prevent that happening again. The others are small enough still that they should be safe. Watch us have a very mild winter and no storms now….

Chopped down my teasel, mulched the melon (which isn’t doing at all well and is probably dying, I so need a greenhouse..), mucked out the hens and generally tidied up a bit.

All in all a productive day, but it does feel decidedly autumnal now and I think I need to start looking at search engine stuff on the Ethics Trading site again with an eye towards winter and Christmas. It’s not that far away now you know….
