We skipped the black bin collection 2 weeks ago because it was less than half full, but this week it was maybe 2/3 full if you fluff it all up! So we decided to put it out for collection. I know people, in real life and online, who constantly moan about a fortnightly collection and I wonder what’s in their bin. It’s not been that hard really to cut our collections from fortnightly to monthly and I’m aiming to keep it that way through the rest of this year. I know there are people out there who never ever put out a bin, or send a small bin full to landfill once a year…. But most of us aren’t that organised or determined. But, for each of us we can make some changes, we can reduce what we send to landfill and let’s face it, we need to.

Just by taking the hard plastic out and passing cooked food waste to my chickens we’ve halved our rubbish. This week we’re trying to work out which soft plastic bags and packets can go in with the recycled carriers and that will help even more.
